Yeah, we should have had some boats! We were VERY excited to see it all work as planned.

And it was a lot of work, but not nearly as hard as I expected. We didn't even start until after the last storms and then only worked about a couple hours/day IF we had time to work outside. Probably no more than 15 hours of the two of us tearing out bushes and making the ditches (watching videos and reading up on permaculture NOT included).

It's amazing how much easier it is when the soil is wet.

I just had a look at your rosemary wreaths, what a great idea:

We'll be planting lots of rosemary. Once it's established, even the rabbits should be leaving it alone.

Awesome job, and it looked like a lot of work. Time to do the dance of joy! (and make some little boats!)

Thanks for the comments, been SO busy, I just haven't had time to update here. No lack of pictures, I constantly take all these pictures and then don't get around to posting them.

There USED to be the Smith Ranch and it was sold and is now a tourist hot spot -- mostly Europeans and Asians flying in or bussed in from Vegas:
http://www.grandcanyonranch.com/

That's on the way up to the Skywalk and we're just a few miles away. Until they recently paved the lower part of Diamand Bar road up to Grand Canyon West, we got so much dust from the buses driving up.

Also, here is Laura's blog: http://gardensindesert.blogspot.com/

Great pics and she's gardening in the Black Mountains near Las Vegas.

I like your blog, I look forward to your next post. We went through Wickenburg on the way to Phoenix, and when I got home I looked up Wickenburg on mapquest, arial view and stumbled on what I believe is the Smith Ranch. Is that the same area? You can email me if you'd like.~Laura

That is my kind of day. Love those exploration trips but don't do them as much as I used to.
A recent post about using tubes in adobe could be a way to use those old unsightly pipes. I think the piping is used in the buildings a lot like they used cob, kind of a wattle and dob type of building like in Africa, only they use the piping as reinforment.

I loved the wood fencing around the water trough. Thanks for sharing. Those were beautiful pictures. Anna

I'm sure you can, dogs have even been trained to use a toilet.

But, I MUCH prefer him going outside. That's one of the nice things about living in the desert, Butch "usually" goes where it doesn't matter.

Amazingly, Andy (as I named him temporarily) already got the hang of it. I suppose he just copies what Butch does.

He turned out to be a very bright puppy. He keeps his toys on Butch's pillow (which is now Andy's pillow) and I can tell that Butch is still wondering when Andy will go "home" again. I've taken care of other dogs for a few days occasionally. But he likes to play with Andy and even tries to WRESTLE with that little puppy.

Right now Andy is not doing too well, I took him along to get water and just as we got back home he puked. But he didn't jump around, whine or yelp, just stayed on the back seat.

He'll be a very good and lots of fun dog.
